introductION to acting

"I'm in one of the most incredible places, Kathmandu, in the Mount Everest region, and the film has brought me here to have the experience of a lifetime, and I just want to say, if you want to study as an actor, go see Peter Kalos. He'll teach you how to live, not just how to act. He's been instrumental in my career, and it's brought me here. I love him so much. Try the Melbourne Actors Lab, guys. It'll change your life. You could end up somewhere like this."

introduction to acting
(12 weeks)

A supportive and structured introduction to the craft of acting.

Taught by professional actors Dennis Manahan and Katherine Innes, who have trained with Melbourne Actors Lab founder Peter Kalos since 2009.

This course offers a clear first step into the work — grounded in the same process-based approach used in the ongoing studio.

The training draws on the tradition of Lee Strasberg and the work of The Actors' Studio, adapted for contemporary performance across stage and screen.

Course Structure

A foundation in relaxation, sensory work, character development and scene work. (Runs for 12 weeks)

What You’ll Do

Each class builds progressively through:

Active relaxation
Sensory exercises
Character development
Scene work

The emphasis is on process over performance — developing focus, instinct, and truthful behaviour from the ground up.

Who It’s For

For those new to acting, or returning to the craft and looking to build a strong foundation in the work of The Actors' Studio and Lee Stranberg. No experience is required.
